Power Requirement Guide When Building Your Own Custom Desktop PC
 MOTHERBOARD POWER REQUIREMENTS
There is no strict rule here however you should allow
a minimum of 50 Watts for the motherboard.
The wattage of basic motherboards is around 35 Watts with
higher end gaming models coming in just under the 50 Watts mark.
High End EATX and Server Motherboards can be up to 80 Watts.

MATX INTEL or AMD 35 WATTS
ATX INTEL or AMD 50 WATTS
EATX INTEL or AMD 80 WATTS
UP TO 80 WATTS
MOTHERBOARDS 35 to 80 WATTS

INTEL PROCESSORS
SOCKET 1150 84 WATTS
SOCKET 1150(K) 88 WATTS
SOCKET 1151 95 WATTS
SOCKET 2011 130 WATTS
SOCKET 2011-v3 140 WATTS

AMD PROCESSORS
AMD A6 FM2+ 65 WATTS
AMD A8 FM2+ 95 WATTS
AMD A10 FM2+ 95 WATTS
AMD FX 4300/6300 95 WATTS
AMD FX 4350/6350 125 WATTS
AMD FX 8320/8350/8370 125 WATTS
AMD FX 8320e/8370e 95 WATTS
AMD FX 9370/9390 220 WATTS
PROCESSORS 84 to 140 WATTS 65 to 220 WATTS
System Memory Power Requirements
DDR3 4GB SINGLE MODULE 3 WATTS
DDR3 8GB SINGLE MODULE 5 WATTS
DDR4 4GB SINGLE MODULE 3 WATTS
DDR4 8GB SINGLE MODULE 5 WATTS

Remember this is per stick so is you have 16GB ( 8GB x 2 ) the
power consumed will be 10 Watts however if you have 16GB ( 4GB x 4)
the power consumed will be 12 Watts
SYSTEM MEMORY 3 to 40 WATTS

HDD & SSD Power Requirements
2.5" Hard Disk Drives 4 WATTS
3.5" Hard Disk Drives 9 WATTS
2.5" Solid State Drives 3 WATTS

Power is per drive so if you have more than one drive please multiple
the listed wattage by the number of drives installed.

Most PCs will have no more than an SSD and a Secondary Drive
for Storage which means for the vast majority of PCs
the Power Consumption will be no more than 12 Watts.

HARD DISK & SSD DRIVES 3 to 108 WATTS

 DVDRW & BLURAY DRIVE
POWER REQUIREMENTS
DVD or DVDRW 27 WATTS
BLURAY COMBO or WRITER 30 WATTS

Power is per drive so if you have more than one drive please multiple
the listed wattage by the number of drives installed.

Most PCs will only have 1 single DVD Rewriter therefore
the most common power requirement is 27 Watts.
OPTICAL DRIVES 27 to 30 WATTS
Sound Card Power Requirements
The vast majority of PCs will have the sound included on the motherboard
and therefore the required wattage is calsulated within the allowance for
the motheroard and no extra wattage is required . However for dedicated
sound cards the power requirments should be 16 Watts Maximum
SOUND CARDS 0 to 16 WATTS
Video Card Power Requirements
If you PC us using the onboard video then the power requirements
are calculated within the required power consumption of the motherboard.

For Nvidia GeForce & AMD Radeon Power Requirements please visit
our Video Card Power Consumption Guide by click the link below

VIDEO CARDS 0 to 275 WATTS

Case Fan Power Requirements
80 to 100mm Case Fans 2 WATTS
120 to 140mm Case Fans 3 WATTS
80 to 100mm Case Fans (LEDS) 4 WATTS
120 to 140mm Case Fans (LEDS) 5 WATTS
Wattage is calcualted per fan.

CPU Cooling Requirements
INTEL CPU HEATSINK & FAN  3 WATTS
AMD CPU HEATSINK & FAN 3 WATTS
LIQUID COOLERS STANDARD 16 WATTS
LIQUID COOLERS DUAL 18 WATTS

You should considering keeping the amount of Fans to the minimum required
if you are coming close to the wattage of your PSU and consider using fans which
do not have LEDS to save on wattage as every watt saved will allow a bigger and
better video card. Liquid Cooling is quieter and is better for over clocking but uses
more wattage.

FANS & COOLING SOLUTIONS 2 to 18 WATTS

WARNING  - IF YOU OVERCLOCK YOUR MEMORY , VIDEO CARD OR PROCESSOR THIS WILL INCREASE POWER CONSUMPTION
AND THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW WHAT THE POTENTIAL WATTAGE IS WHEN ANY COMPONENT IS OVER CLOCKED.
IF YOU INTEND TO OVER CLOCK YOU NEED TO ENSURE YOU HAVE AMPLE SPARE WATTAGE AND ALLOW A MINIMUM OF DOUBLE
THE NORMAL WATTAGE REQUIREMENT PER OVER CLOCKED COMPONENT.
THIS WARNING APPLIES MAINLY TO VIDE CARDS !!

Wattages are based on use of a genuine 80+ Certified PSU
