Building a custom gaming PC can be an exhilarating project that enhances your gaming experience. This guide breaks down the essential components you’ll need and provides tips on how to choose the right parts for optimal performance, ensuring a smooth and immersive gaming experience.
Building a high-performance gaming PC can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it's important to understand the essential components that go into creating a powerhouse system. From the processor to the graphics card, each component plays a critical role in delivering the smooth, immersive gaming experience you crave.
The heart of your gaming PC is the processor, or CPU (Central Processing Unit). This is the component responsible for executing the instructions and calculations that power your games and applications. When it comes to gaming, you'll want to prioritize a processor with high clock speeds and multiple cores, as these features will ensure your PC can handle the demands of modern gaming without any hiccups.
The graphics card, or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), is arguably the most important component for gaming. This is the component that's responsible for rendering the stunning visuals and special effects that bring your games to life. When selecting a graphics card, you'll want to prioritize performance and ensure it can handle the games you plan to play at your desired resolution and frame rate.
Another essential component for a gaming PC is the system memory, or RAM (Random Access Memory). RAM acts as a temporary storage space for the data and instructions your CPU and GPU need to access quickly, which is crucial for smooth gaming performance.
Building a gaming PC requires careful consideration of each component, as they all work together to deliver an exceptional gaming experience. By understanding the essential elements and prioritizing performance, you can create a system that will immerse you in your favorite games for years to come.
When it comes to choosing a processor for your gaming PC, the decision between Intel and AMD can be a challenging one. Both manufacturers offer high-performance options, but the specific needs of your gaming setup and budget will play a significant role in determining the best choice.
Intel processors have long been the go-to choice for gaming enthusiasts, thanks to their strong single-core performance and long-standing reputation for reliability. Intel's latest Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9 processors are known for their excellent gaming performance, with high clock speeds and efficient architectures that can handle the demands of the latest games.
AMD, on the other hand, has made significant strides in the processor market in recent years, offering compelling alternatives to Intel's offerings. AMD's Ryzen processors are known for their excellent multi-core performance, making them a great choice for gamers who also engage in content creation, streaming, or other demanding tasks.
Ultimately, the choice between Intel and AMD processors for your gaming PC will depend on your specific needs and budget. If your primary focus is on gaming performance and you have the budget to spare, an Intel processor may be the way to go. However, if you're looking for a more well-rounded system that can handle a variety of tasks, an AMD Ryzen processor may be the better option, offering excellent value and performance.
The graphics card, or GPU, is arguably the most crucial component for a high-performance gaming PC. This is the component responsible for rendering the stunning visuals and special effects that bring your games to life, so it's essential to choose the right one for your needs and budget.
When selecting a graphics card, the first thing to consider is the resolution and frame rate you want to achieve. Higher resolutions, such as 1440p or 4K, and higher frame rates, like 120Hz or 144Hz, will require more powerful graphics cards to deliver a smooth and immersive gaming experience.
Another important factor to consider is the type of games you plan to play. Different games have varying graphical demands, and some genres, such as first-person shooters or esports titles, may benefit more from a graphics card that prioritizes high frame rates over pure rendering power.
The final consideration when choosing a graphics card is your budget. High-end graphics cards can be quite expensive, so it's important to find the right balance between performance and cost. Don't forget to factor in the cost of any additional components, such as a power supply or cooling solution, that may be required to support your chosen graphics card.
Selecting the right graphics card for your gaming PC is a critical decision that will have a significant impact on your overall gaming experience. By carefully considering your resolution, frame rate, game preferences, and budget, you can choose a graphics card that will deliver the stunning visuals and smooth performance you demand.
When it comes to building a gaming PC, storage is an often overlooked component, but it's a crucial one. The amount of storage you need will depend on the types of games you play, the number of games you want to have installed, and your overall storage needs. Understanding the different storage options and their benefits can help you make an informed decision.
For most modern gamers, a combination of solid-state drive (SSD) and hard disk drive (HDD) storage is the ideal solution. SSDs offer lightning-fast read and write speeds, which can significantly improve your system's boot times and game loading times, while HDDs provide ample storage space for your game library and other files.
If you're on a tighter budget or have a limited amount of space in your PC case, you may opt for a single high-capacity SSD as your primary storage solution. While this can be more expensive than a traditional HDD-based setup, the performance benefits can be well worth the investment.
For gamers who have an extensive library of games or need to store large media files, a combination of an SSD and a high-capacity HDD may be the best solution. This allows you to take advantage of the speed of an SSD for your most frequently played games, while using the HDD for less-accessed files and your overall game storage.
The amount of storage you need for your gaming PC will depend on your specific needs and preferences. By understanding the benefits of both SSD and HDD storage, and how they can work together, you can create a storage solution that delivers the perfect blend of performance and capacity for your gaming needs.
When it comes to building a high-performance gaming PC, the quality and reliability of the hardware components you choose can make a significant difference in your overall gaming experience. While there are many manufacturers and brands to consider, some have consistently proven themselves as the go-to options for serious gamers.
For processors, Intel and AMD are the two dominant players in the market, each offering a range of options for different budgets and performance needs. Intel's Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9 processors are widely regarded as some of the best choices for gaming, thanks to their excellent single-threaded performance and robust feature sets.
In the graphics card market, NVIDIA and AMD are the two primary competitors, with each company offering a robust lineup of GPUs catered to different levels of performance and budgets. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX and GTX series are generally considered the go-to options for high-end gaming, with their latest RTX 30-series cards delivering exceptional performance and advanced features like ray tracing and DLSS.
When it comes to system memory, or RAM, the top brands to consider are Corsair, G.Skill, and Kingston. These manufacturers are known for their high-quality, reliable, and fast-performing memory modules that are optimized for gaming and overclocking.
When it comes to storage, the go-to brands for both SSDs and HDDs are Samsung, Western Digital, and Seagate. These manufacturers are known for their reliable, high-performance storage solutions that can cater to the demands of modern gaming.
By choosing hardware components from these top brands, you can ensure that your gaming PC is built with quality, reliability, and performance in mind. While there may be other manufacturers and options to consider, these brands have consistently proven themselves as the go-to choices for serious gamers who demand the best from their gaming rigs.
Building the ultimate gaming PC requires careful consideration of each component, from the processor and graphics card to the storage and memory. By understanding the essential elements and prioritizing performance, you can create a system that will immerse you in your favorite games for years to come. Remember to research the latest offerings from top brands like Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, and Samsung, and find the right balance between performance and value to create a gaming rig that will truly exceed your expectations.

Overall, I can't fault the service and products I bought. There was a bit of delay but as soon as I contacted the seller, they replied straight away and sent goods out.
Thank you for your review. I assume this was a component order. As you will know we have ceased allowing the same of components and accessories on our websites given this was only to be a short term service to assist customers in 2021. It was not possible to continue the service as doing so was delaying the shipment of custom pcs , laptops , servers and workstations which is our core business. If you ever need any help of assistance please email us. Thank you for your custom and your review and please accept apology for any delay.
Really great to have and Irish business for us to use. There is 2 cons, speed and pricing. Pricing is a little bit over the top but accepting credit facilities means excess charges and naturally going to cause a price increase but some components are €800 above RRP. Processing, dispatch and delivery speeds leave a lot to be desired especially considering it was a domestic order.
All in all the team deserve the business but I think they are two areas that definitely could improve, however it won’t stop me from shopping here again. Thanks lads
We have been providing components at almost cost price as a service to our customers since January 2021 so it would be highly unlikely to have an item listed at €800 above the RRP considering the pricing is set by the vendor and not ourselves. Thank you for your order and I am sorry we did not live up to your expectations but please understand that component sales was only ever intended as a short term service and we had allowed it to go on for more than 3 years which was creating issues for our many loyal customers who rely on us for custom pcs , laptops ,servers and workstions. This was the reason we decided to stop allowing the sale of components and accories on our websites form the 30th of September 2024. We have done our upmost to provide a level of service to component and accessory customers however it wa not possible to provide the necessary level of service as 11% of our sales created 82% of our support ticket and this service was being supported by us financally since 2021. It is not possible to supply components in Ireland quick even if we could supply at low prices as the stock must be held on the continent based on the Irish market being tiny in comparison to the German or even Italian markets. We have always tried to find a balance but due to the effects of component and accessory sales on our core business and customers regards pcs , laptops and workstation we have stopped selling components and accessories. Thank you for your custom and I hope we can assist you in the future. There is a notice below not related to your review but it will give you an idea of why we have stopped the sale of accessories. If you need a recomendation on a component supplier who ships to Ireland please contact our sales team. I do however not think any large component suppliers in Germany for example could ship to Ireland as we did but companies like CONRAD.COM for example are very good and they specialist in component sales. Thank you for your order.
We ceased selling components and accessories on the 30th of September 2024 after notice of 120 days. This notice was on the product , home and checkout pages on our websites. Our decision related to the selling of components and accessories being a temporary service to help customers impacted by Brexit Custom Controls in January 2021. We did received 20 times the normal amount of orders in the final days of September which did create issue. As the service was ending on the last day of September any orders not processed or available were cancelled and refunded and an email sent to the customer or when possible a phone call was made..
though it took a while for my delivery to arrive once the order was updated it was delivered within 2 days and i received a free upgrade to an 8gb 3050 rather than the 4gb one i ordered.
Thank you for your review
Pros: My order arrived promptly and as ordered. No damage etc (and in an Electric van !)
Nice personal touch with the free pen and small packet of jellies in the box :-)
Cons: Not a great website. Slow and archaic.
Also - Can't find the business on the map. The Eircode indicates what looks like a phone repair shop. (Edit: I've since found them. The Eircode on the Facebook page is incorrect)
Our website was launched in 2020 and we are on a 2 year cycle when it comes to launching new websites. Our new website which will offer 3 times the power and capacity will launch in September 2022.
Eircode changed our Eircode to R93 K22K in February 2022 and this has been updated on our website.
We are also launching AUTOADDRESS for EIRCODE on our new website which is launching next month so a customer merely types in their Eircode and the address autocompletes.
You can view our new website by visiting www.CUSTOMPCS.ie
Thank You for your review
I was happy with my dealings with CustomPC.ie. Customer service responded with relevant information and dealt with tickets rapidly after the initial quite long delay.
Only criticism I would have is that the delivery of my CPU cooler took more than two weeks and was the last component to arrive.
Their reply to this comment contained information that they did not communicate to me at the time, and which would have made me write a more favourable comment. I think to make things perfect, all they need to do is increase the size of the service team, to shorten the response times.
Thank you for your reply, CUSTOMPC.ie.
And, of course, apology accepted!
Nick , thank you for your review. Unfortunately the delay with your BeQuiet cooler was related to the initial model supplied not have the AM5 or 1700 bracket and was clearly older stock. When we realised this we asked for the newer version to be supplied and this did add almost 5 business days to the order and for that we apologise. It is our policy to ensure the description matches the supplied product and as this model stated the newer brackets were included we delayed the order until the correct version arrived. This is not a low cost cooler and is a BeQuiet Pro 5 so we needed to ensure you got the exact model you ordered. We do carry this model in stock for our own builds however none of our own stock included the updated brackets and we had not offered the cooler as an option on the AM5 or Intel 1700 however clearly BeQuiet updated the cooler to be compatible with AM5 and Intel 1700. Please accept our apologies for the delay which was created.
